BOUTIQUE OPENS FOR RESIDENTS OF THE RESTIGOUCHE HOSPITAL CENTRE

Campbellton, N.B. –  The Restigouche Hospital Centre (RHC) opened its clothing “Boutique” for residents on September 13.

This recently opened used clothing outlet is an initiative of the Region Occupational Therapy Department. The project is part of the employment program for residents, which has existed since the 1970s.

Pauline Perron, Manager of the Region Occupational Therapy Department, explains that the outlet is designed to meet two needs, namely to provide additional employment opportunities for residents wishing to work and to allow RHC residents to purchase quality used clothing at affordable prices.

The goal of the employment program is to help residents maintain and/or improve their skills by taking part in relevant activities. Some 39 residents currently work in various areas.

At present, four residents are working in the Boutique. They sort incoming items, perform minor repairs, and then wash, iron and sell the clothing. They are enjoying their work and say their experience to date has been very satisfying. This activity is very important to them and is allowing them to acquire new skills in this field.

The Boutique project has been made possible by the generosity of Restigouche Health Authority employees and people in the community who have donated clothing. Sincere thanks to all donors.
