General and specialized surgery services are provided at Campbellton Regional Hospital. The Surgical Suite is open Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Located on the first level of the Campbellton Regional Hospital, it comprises five operating rooms, including a cystoscopy room. There is also an operating room on the second level, near the Obstetric Unit, for all cesarean section cases. During 2006-2007, 2,730 surgical procedures were conducted, 1,091 of which required hospitalization and 1,639 day surgeries.
Orthopedic Surgery is provided to the population at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. The Restigouche Zone of the Vitalité Health Network can count on the services of an orthopedic surgeon who also participates in the inter-regional coverage with our neighboring Acadie-Bathurst and Miramichi Health Authorities, assuring services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in that field.
A Competent Team
An on-call team is available at all times for emergency cases. Surgical services have two general surgeons, one gynecologist, one orthopedist, two ophthalmologists, six dentists, one urologist and four anesthetists. A plastic surgeon and an otorhinolaryngologist join the team periodically. The Surgical Suite and the Surgical Unit can also count on the services of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
Services provided are linked to the various specialties offered by the Restigouche Zone of the Vitalité Health Network. They include:
- General Surgery
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery
Surgical services are supported by various units and specialized programs, such as:

It should be noted that pacemakers are now installed in the operating room by a surgeon. The Anesthesia Department follows the newest trends, and an increasing number of surgical procedures are performed under epidural or local anesthesia.
