Admission

When you arrive at one of our hospital facilities, the Admitting Department will ask you to complete hospital forms.

You will need your hospital card, your valid provincial Medicare card as well as any other insurance information.  The information provided by you is kept confidential.  You will also receive an identification bracelet.  Please do not remove it unless asked to do so by Hospital staff.

Three types of rooms can be found in our hospital facilities:

  • Private (1 bed per room),
  • Semi-private (2 beds per room), and
  • Standard ward (4 beds per room).

The New Brunswick Medicare plan provides a bed in a standard ward for all New Brunswick residents in need of care.

Based on room availability, patients have an option to request preferred accommodations at a cost of $75.00 a day for a private room and $65.00 a day for a semi-private room.

Preferred Accommodations

If you are paying for private or semi-private accommodations you will also benefit from the television rental service and a daily newspaper of your choice at no additional charge.   We hope that these “little extras” will make time pass more quickly and make your stay as pleasant as possible.  If your insurance covers preferred accommodations, please advise the Admitting staff accordingly.

What To Bring

Please bring essential personal items only.  These include toiletries, clothes, bath robe, slippers and facial tissue.  You may want to keep a bit of cash for your daily needs.  You will require personal clothing if you are admitted to the psychiatry unit.  You are responsible for your personal belongings.

Do Not Bring

Leave all jewellery, large amounts of cash, cheque books, personal papers and any other valuables at home.  Should you bring any of these items with you, please make arrangements to have them sent home with a family member or friend.  The Hospital does, however, provide safe-keeping for small valuables and spending money.

Please do not bring electrical appliances such as a television set or hair dryer to a hospital facility.  In the interest of patient safety, the use of personal electrical equipment will not be allowed.

You may be asked to sign a consent form for certain tests, procedures and treatments.  Before signing, make sure you know the benefits and risks and understand these.  This is called informed consent.  If you want more information or have questions before signing, talk to your doctor.  You have the right to refuse treatment but make sure you know what may happen if you do so.

Telephones are installed in all patient rooms and telephone service is available to each patient.  For telephone hook-up, please call 123.  Remember to disconnect your telephone if you are transferred to another room and when you are discharged.  Any telephone charges incurred will be charged to your home telephone number.

Telephone with amplifier - this special telephone can be installed in your room.

Television Service

Campbellton Regional Hospital – For television hook-up, please complete and return the appropriate form found at the nursing station and a representative from the television service company will visit your room for service installation.  The fee is payable to the company at the time of installation.  Wireless headphone set – this will allow you to listen to the television without worrying about disturbing anyone.

“bon appétit!”

Your meals and diet

Healthy eating is an important part of your treatment and recovery.  Menu selections in the hospital are based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating.

Patients menus are distributed daily.  Please circle all the items you wish to receive on your tray.  Substitutions may be permitted only if required for your care.  A family member or significant other is requested to select meals for children or anyone requiring assistance.  Assistance may also be provided by a representative from the Nutrition and Food Service when menus are collected in the morning.  If your menu is not completed, a balanced meal will be provided for you.

Please let Nursing know if you have food allergies, food you cannot tolerate or food restrictions because of your religion or culture.   Nursing will inform Nutrition and Food Services so that we can better manage your menu.

If your doctor prescribes a special diet for you, you are reminded to eat only foods provided through the hospital food service.  Please consult the nurse before eating food provided to you by family/friends.

Each unit receives basic food supplies for patient requiring nourishment between meals.  Prescribed therapeutic snacks and supplements are also available from Nutrition and Food Services.

Discharge Procedure

Your doctor will advise you when you may go home.   You are requested to leave by 11:00 on the day of your discharge so that we may prepare your room for the next patient.

Before leaving check with the nurse to make sure that you have received all necessary instructions, prescriptions and your hospital identification card.  Upon discharge you will be accompanied to the Business Office to settle any outstanding accounts.

Please arrange for a relative or friend to drive you home.  Under no circumstances should you attempt to drive until you have recovered sufficiently from your hospital stay.

Banking Services

There is a bank machine in the main entrance at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.
