Overview
Located on Level 3 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, this long-term care unit for veterans is meant to be a home-like environment where special attention is paid to the preservation of a friendly and warm atmosphere to make sure that each resident feels at home. This unit is funded by Veterans Affairs Canada and can accommodate 20 residents. To contact other facilities across Canada, visit the Online Community of Care.
A patio adjoining the unit was laid out to make it possible for residents to enjoy outdoor activities. For residents with wandering problems, a safety system was set up to allow them to go as they wish on the unit.
Our Team
The unit relies on the services of a geriatrician internist who provides consultation and follow-up to all residents. A general practitioner, available 24 hours a day, also visits the unit weekly.
A team made up of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and care attendants shares the workload during day and night shifts and meet the residents' needs. A nurse manager completes the team Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The multidisciplinary team is also involved and meets with the nurse in charge once a month to review care plans.
Services Provided
The unit provides comprehensive, quality basic care. In accordance with the residents' wishes, the unit also offers palliative care. Residents suffering from acute illness are admitted to an active care unit.
